I was talking with a friend the other day and we were discussing what we believe is a shift taking place in people around the globe. For a very, very long time our world has been governed almost exclusively by masculine energy. Really, more than just governed – masculine energy has set the tone, painted the worldview, influenced everything from science to religion.
Here in the US we elected a black man president for the first time a few years back. I voted for him and contributed to his campaign. His party selected him to run in the general election over a very qualified woman.
It seems many people in the US were ready for a black man as a leader but not a woman. I wonder why?
Recently Pope Francis said of gay priests: “If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them? . . . They shouldn’t be marginalized.” He went on to reiterate the Roman Catholic Church’s ban on women priests, saying the decision is “definitive” and “the Church has spoken and says no … that door is closed.”
Clearly the Catholic church is ready for gay priests but not women priests. I wonder why? As an aside, if you care to know about the history of the church and women, look at my post entitled Woman.
So, you can see from the above examples men of color and men who are gay are being accepted. Good for them.
In the leadership of the US and in the Vatican where is the balance of power to come from? The balance of feminine and masculine energies.
I’ve chosen these two examples, there are many others. This blog is not a political blog and I’m not attempting to make a political statement.
My question is simply: Where is the balance to come from? How will we ever live in a balanced world where decisions are made by equal representation of masculine and feminine energy?
And, yet, I sense there is a shift taking place. Inside each of us. Perhaps we each will realize oneness within – the union of opposites – the balance of feminine and masculine – yin and yang. Lots of the wisdom traditions teach this path.
Once we achieve that balance, individually – maybe that’s when the balance of power will be achieved out here in the material world? I wonder.
