You Are Just Who You Are

available[1]“There is only one important point you must keep in your mind and let it be your guide. No matter what people call you, you are just who you are. Keep to this truth. You must ask yourself how is it you want to live your life. We live and we die, this is the truth that we can only face alone. No one can help us, not even the Buddha. So consider carefully, what prevents you from living the way you want to live your life?” – Dalai Lama

“ . . .what prevents you from living the way you want to live your life?” Now, that’s the question, isn’t it? It occurred to me several years ago just how simple, joyful and beautiful life is. One of the biggest questions we all must answer is “what do I want?”

Really, in my heart of hearts. What do I want right here, right now. I’m not talking about material things. I’m talking about – Who do you want in your life? How do you want to spend your time? What excites you? When does time stand still? What energizes you to the point you can’t wait to begin? What brings you such joy you laugh until you have tears in your eyes? Or, what touches your heart so deeply, those same tears fall? When do you feel that joyful, other worldly oneness with all life? And, many, many other examples from your own life. In other words, what is your ground of being? Who are you?

So, then, why don’t each of us live life just as we are all the time? In my own life I can easily get caught up in the other – spouse, children, friends, my community, work, expectations. Isn’t it amazing how easily we get pulled away from our own inner ground? Or, my monkey mind goes on a trip and I go along with it. Before you know it I’m in a stressful, negative place. Wild!

I think it’s a lot about just simply checking in – with me – the real, here’s who I am me. Take a breath – go inside – what do I want, right here, right now. Do that!

Peace.
