Solar eclipses happen at a new moon. From the vantage point of astrology new moons are times of endings and beginnings. Solar eclipses are extra powerful new moons. Some think of a solar eclipse as taking us offline, rebooting our systems. Old, outdated or unused programs are erased. Making room for the new.

This particular solar eclipse is in Taurus, an earth sign concerned with this material reality – things, money. Also concerned with intrinsic values – love, joy, inner peace – you can add your own list. The challenge for Taurus is to learn balance when it comes to materiality, the feminine aspect and the Earth herself. This powerful new moon solar eclipse is giving us the extra energy nudge to consider being better stewards of the earth and to begin thinking about the balance of masculine and feminine energies in our world.

“What we don’t understand, we tend to fear, and what we fear, we try to dominate and control. For many years, a deep fear of nature (and the feminine) has been fostered by patriarchal religious doctrines, leading to a profound disconnection from and denigration of the environment.” – Stephanie Austin, The Mountain Astrologer, April/May 2014

The grand cross is now beginning to drift out of exact configuration. It has left major changes in its wake. I think of it as planting seeds. The energy of this grand cross has planted many seeds in our individual and collective consciousness. We have been shifted. Think back to December, 2013. What in your life has been affected by these planetary energies?

So, a time of beginning is here. What will you begin in your life? Where have you cast aside old modes of thinking or acting? Remember: “We have only today. Let us begin.”
