Astrology helps me remember we live in a magical, miraculous universe. Watching the movements of the planets correlate with life on Earth reminds me everything is connected – we are not separate from what’s “out there.” “We are one” is more literal than most of us believe.
The planets are in perpetual motion, cycles upon cycles upon cycles. The Buddhists teach impermanence – nothing is permanent. The cosmos certainly supports that view. Depending on where you are standing in your life, impermanence is either good news or bad. And, either way, it’s also a fact of our life here on Earth. As the planets move in their never ending journey through the sky, they symbolize certain energies that are at play here in this material reality. How exactly these energies may appear in your own life depends on your individual natal chart and your choices.
The year 2012 brought some heavy planetary energies. Saturn moved into the sign of Scorpio in October, 2012 and the first of seven Uranus in Aries/Pluto in Capricorn squares was also in 2012. Due to the retrograde motion of these two planets they have pretty much been in each other’s neighborhood since that time. The seven squares are simply when they were at exact degrees. Also, Mars in Libra and Jupiter in Cancer joined the party in 2014 to form a Cardinal Grand Cross. All of these energies were and are supporting/demanding deep changes within each of us. Many people have felt the last two years were like sailing on stormy seas.
By mid-year 2015 we can all take a deep breath and enjoy some calmer breezes. There is one more Uranus/Pluto square in March to help us breakthrough those last walls in our psyche or in our lives.
Following are the longer term planetary movements for the coming year. The ones likely to be felt in the lives of most of us to a greater or lesser degree.
Uranus/Pluto – 7th and Last Square
Exact on March 16, 2015 at 15 degrees Aries/Capricorn.
As explained above, these two outer planets have been dancing in and out of square since 2012. They have been and are signaling the death of the old and birth of the new. A square is a 90 degree angle creating friction, a turning point. This is the last of 7 squares between these two planets. And, a very powerful one.
All of the aspects made by these planets have brought and will bring us plenty of energy and lots of chances to make changes in our lives. How we choose to use the energy or respond to it is the question for each of us. To what extent are we self-aware enough to work with these energies? How clearly do we see ourselves?
The cardinal signs initiate new phases of our development. We may be pressured to make major internal and external changes. What changes are asking to be made? What patterns or beliefs are no longer in your highest good?
You may find meditation, spending time alone in contemplation or time in nature will help you stay centered and grounded as you negotiate your way through what may feel unsettling.
This is a cycle and will pass as the year unfolds. Of course, we will be changed by the cycle. The purpose is to help us live a more authentic, joyful life. To help us clean out our closet, let go of what no longer serves. Where in our lives are we stuck, not happy, going through the motions? As I said above, this is the last square between these two planets – one last opportunity to breakthrough and breakdown what no longer serves.
Other Planets Adding Energy to the Square. As a backdrop to all this energy, we are living in a very long transition period between the Age of Pisces and the Age of Aquarius. Our foundations are shifting. Sometimes radically and sometimes in a barely perceptible way – but, shifting none the less.
The astrological year ends at the Spring Equinox, just a few days before this square is exact on March 26. We will have a dramatic solar eclipse at 29 degrees Pisces (the last degree of the zodiac) also within a few days of this square.
Neptune is transiting in Pisces (its home sign) and Mercury (mind) is joining it around this same time. These two planets coming together is a sign of perception opening and mental barriers dissolving – a renewed sense of oneness perhaps.
Pluto will help us see the shadow side of Pisces – addiction, delusion and victim thinking.
These are all indications that our relationship to Source, Creator, Universe, God, or whatever name you prefer, is a key concept for 2015. It may be an urge for each of us to connect our physical reality with our authentic/spiritual self. Time to release emotional illusions and fears. To enjoy the freedom of living as we “are,” rather than as we feel we “should.”
Saturn Enters Sagittarius
Saturn entered Sagittarius on December 23, 2014; retrogrades back into Scorpio on June 14, 2015; and re-enters Sagittarius on September 17, 2015 where it will stay until December 20, 2017.
Saturn entered Scorpio on October 5, 2012. It’s been a heavy time for many of us. In Scorpio Saturn has highlighted our emotional depths – intense areas of life – sexuality, intimacy, death, power, debt, taxes and core wounds of betrayal, abandonment and abuse. This energy has supported us in seeing and releasing old pain and freed up the power trapped in our suffering. As you can see above, Saturn will return to Scorpio for a short stay in 2015 – one last round of completing this process.
A new day! In Sagittarius Saturn will bring our attention to lighter areas of life. Here we will be called to examine our belief systems, philosophy, religion, truth, trust, teachers and guides. What is going on in your own thoughts – your mind? What stories are you telling yourself? What is your vision for yourself and for the world? Are your stories in your highest good – are they serving you well – are they useful? Is it time to release judgments and out dated beliefs? Are you “right?” Is that even important?
Here Saturn wants you to examine all these things, learn to walk your talk and bring your visions into reality. It’s time for you to write your own story and let go of living someone else’s story.
Saturn Squares Neptune and Chiron
Saturn Squares Neptune on November 26, 2015 at 7 degrees Sagittarius/Pisces and again in June and September, 2016. Saturn Squares Chiron on December 28, 2016 at 21 degrees Sagittarius/Pisces, but is within a 7 degree orb in December, 2015.
Neptune and Chiron have been transiting in Pisces for a while now. Pisces is the realm of dreams, illusions, imagination, the unconscious and subtle energies. Neptune is the modern ruler of Pisces and is at home here and powerful. Neptune will be in Pisces until 2025 and Chiron until 2019. A long stay for them both.
These planets in Pisces can help us work through wounds that may go back lifetimes or may stem from earlier in this lifetime. These wounds can manifest in this material world as addiction, escapism, depression and denial.
As Saturn in Sagittarius squares these two planets over the next two years, we will be asked to see what’s really happening in our lives. Illusion and denial will be stripped away and we will have the opportunity to see our lives more clearly. Neptune and Chiron help us reconnect with the truth of who we are as spiritual beings in this material world and give us the intuitive guidance to do the transformative work for these times.
Jupiter in Leo and Virgo
Jupiter has been in Leo since July 16, 2014 and will be there until August 11, 2015. Jupiter will be in Virgo from August 11, 2015 to September 9, 2016.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, optimism, opportunity and wisdom. It begins the year in fiery Leo. Jupiter, the king of the gods, with Leo, the king of the jungle. This placement brings us the highest expression of who we are with open hearts to share with the world. The area of your chart/your life where Jupiter is transiting will likely be light and joy filled. Jupiter can also expand the shadow side of Leo – willfulness, melodrama and elitism.
When Jupiter moves into Virgo, the king of the gods meets the goddess. The sacred marriage. Here Jupiter expands our interest in and capacity for Earth magic. Among other things Virgo is associated with the druids and priests and priestesses of old. Is it time to give voice to the mystic within? Live closer to the Earth or the cycles of the seasons? Here Jupiter also calls us to live our lives more consciously and with humility, gratitude and awe.
Jupiter will oppose Neptune (exact in September, 2015) and Chiron (exact November, 2015 and again in 2016) bringing balance to the powerful Piscean energies discussed above. Another energy helping us keep our feet on the ground and not get lost in illusion and denial.
Venus is retrograde from July 25 to September 6, 2015. Venus is in Leo from June 5 to October 8, 2015.
Venus goes retrograde about every year and a half for six weeks. During her retrograde we are called inward to rethink our values and priorities, reconsider our relationships and focus on self-love and self-nurturing. Also symptoms of Venus deficiency come into our awareness. The ways we might feel unattractive, unloved, unworthy or where there is a lack of pleasure, connection, beauty and sensual/erotic fulfillment. A time to pull back from social activities and nurture ourselves.
The sign of her retrograde is emphasized since she will be spending more time than usual in that sign. Venus in Leo might signal a heightened awareness of the equality of women and men. Perhaps we can discover mutual respect and learn to appreciate and celebrate the gifts each bring.
Lots more action going on in the cosmos in 2015. The above are the highlights which may be active in the lives of most of us.
