Spontaneous Changes

imagesAFZUQISN“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” – Lao Tzu

Change is so difficult for us humans.  Or, at least, it is for this human.  It always amazes me – when I can get out of my own way, it feels like the heavens have opened up and my life is filled with pure magic.  What seemed difficult and very important in my trying place all of a sudden becomes effortless in my non-trying place.

Some people say this feels like swimming upstream or pushing a boulder uphill or always walking into the wind.  So, what happens if you just roll over on your back and float along and see where you go?  Or, let that boulder roll down the hill while you sit peacefully and watch the show.  If you walk with the wind to your back, it actually pushes you along, you almost feel as though your feet aren’t touching the ground.

I wonder how much energy we all expend in a feeble attempt to hold back the “natural and spontaneous changes” in life.  You want to fire me – ok, I wonder what’s next for me?  You are done with our relationship – great.  When I’m totally honest with myself, I’m done, too.  Thanks for walking away.

A little gray hair?  A few new wrinkles? Or, maybe you just aren’t turned on by the things you wanted to do a few years ago.  Just no energy there anymore.  Time to move on to what’s next in your life?  Probably.

Remember to just sit back, watch the show that is your own life and see what wants to happen next.  Simply “let reality be reality.”
