Truth. Some people believe there is only one truth – theirs. Or, maybe the truth of their religion or political group. Really truth is more akin to opinion.
We each see the world in our own way. It feels like truth because it works for us – difficult for us to see it may not work at all for another being. Have you ever had discussions with others about religion, politics, race, gender, climate change, abortion, the economy, materialism, where we came from, where we are going – you can add you own deep subjects to the list. Lots of opinions all around – usually lively discussion. At the end of it all I doubt opinions were changed – not really – not deep inside.
As we negotiate our way along our journey through this lifetime, we do change our beliefs and opinions. We do deduce new truths, form new opinions. The cycle continues as new experiences mold us and new truths are discovered.
When I look back over my life, it’s amazing and funny how radically I have changed some of my views. And, I expect I will continue to learn, grow and change. Isn’t that the purpose of this little ride we call life?
So, I agree with Lady Gaga – I don’t waste my time anymore trying to change another’s opinion. Life does a pretty good job of that for most of us – assuming we are awake and even a little aware. And, if not? Science tells us all things in the cosmos are either expanding or contracting, including us. Entrenchment sure sounds more like contraction than expansion. But, then, that’s simply my opinion.
