September 2015

11360064-Horoscope-background-Stock-Vector-astrology-zodiac-horoscope[1]As those of you who regularly read my blog know, while I am an astrologer, I don’t write a monthly interpretation post explaining planetary movements. I do from time to time write about unusual astrological happenings. September is one of those times.

When I look at the month of September from the perspective of astrology, I see lots of change. So, it might be a “hold on to your hat” kind of month for some and an “at last I feel lighter” month for others. And, of course, everything in between. I can easily see the planetary changes and shifts that will occur. How they might affect your life is a little more difficult. As you read the following explanations of the action in our starry sky for September, see if you can feel the spirit or energy of what I am attempting to explain and where these energies might be at play in your own life.

When I read a chart, I overlay these planetary movement onto the individual birth chart and can see more clearly how and where in life they may be experienced. Even then, reading a chart is a dialog between me and you. We explore these energies together. So, see if you can explore them on your own. I expect with a little genuine attention you can get some valuable insight to help you on your path.

Here we go –

September 6 – Venus in Leo goes Direct. Since July 25, 2015 Venus has been in her retrograde phase (appearing to move backward from our perspective here on Earth).  On September 6 she will again appear to be moving forward in the sky. Venus is the planet associated with love, beauty, values, relationship and harmony. Her movements will affect your life in these areas.

While she has been retrograde you may have focused on your relationships or found they were front and center in your life in some way. Or, you may have focused on what you value in life – what’s really important. The retrograde period of any planet is not a good time for initiating new action in that area of your life. It’s more a time to reflect – in this case on relationships, love and values. We don’t see as clearly or are not as in touch with ourselves during a retrograde phase – we’re trying to figure it all out.

Venus is going direct on September 6. The retrograde phase of focus and contemplation will lighten and drift away. Venus in her direct motion is a time for action – getting back in the game of love and relationship – hopefully with more clarity around your own values and around your own views of love and partnership.

If you entered into a relationship or took action in this area of your life during the retrograde phase of Venus, you may find a course correction is necessary once you are more settled in your own views.

September 13 – Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo at 2:41 am. This eclipse will be visible in southern Africa, Madagascar, the southwestern Indian Ocean and the northern half of Antarctica. However, its affects will be felt by all of us.

A solar eclipse is always a New Moon and a lunar eclipse is always a Full Moon. We have eclipse seasons – they happen twice a year and usually last for 34.5 days. At least 2 or 3 eclipses occur during this time. Currently, the eclipse seasons are occurring in the spring and fall of the year.

Why do we care? Eclipses are extra powerful New and Full Moons – they mark major endings and beginnings in our life. All eclipses are part of a larger pattern, the Saros cycle. The last time we had a solar eclipse close to this degree of Virgo was on September 1, 1997. What was happening in your life back then? What are you ready for now? What is ready to end? What is ready to begin?

September 17 – Mercury in Libra goes Retrograde until October 9. Libra, ruled by Venus, is a sign associated with relationship. Mercury is associated with mind, thinking and communication. As I explained above, Venus just went direct and while in retrograde our focus was likely on relationship. Here again, a few days later, Mercury is retrograde in Libra – so, another emphasis on relationships. This time it’s Mercury the planet of communication emphasizing the importance of clear, honest communication and the completion or renegotiation of roles, contracts and relationships. Again, this is a retrograde phase – a time for thought, contemplation. Perhaps not the best time for action in this area of your life.

Same day – September 17 – Saturn moves into Sagittarius where it will remain until December 20, 2017. Sagittarius is associated with philosophy, religion, beliefs and telling and living your truth. Among other things Saturn is the planet associated with lessons. Over the next two years while Saturn is transiting Sagittarius you may find yourself considering these areas of your life and changing or adjusting your basic beliefs or world view. Or, you may have experiences out here in the material world which might affect you in these areas of life. Where do you stand? What is your truth?

On a global scale we may see more conflicts centered on beliefs and opinions – debate, argument and conflict that will bring issues of religion and basic philosophies more fully into our awareness. And/or we may gain an appreciation for our differing beliefs and philosophies – a step toward peace in our world.

Saturn has a 28 to 30 year cycle. It was last in Sagittarius 30 years ago. What changed in your life back then? What changed on the global scene back then?

September 23 – Sun moves into Libra – Autumn Equinox. Days and nights are equal at the autumn equinox. The sign of Libra is associated with balance. The light days of summer are coming to an end and the darker days of winter are approaching. The crops in the fields are being harvested. In olden days it was time to prepare for the darkness of winter – whether we lived or died during the dark days was totally dependent on how well we prepared.

In our modern society here in the West we are removed from the joys and perils of living close to the Earth. This equinox can remind us of the cycles in our lives. Light and dark, activity and rest in a never ending dance.

September 24 – Mars enters Virgo where it will remain until November 12. What makes us tick? What gets us all fired up? What makes us angry, and how do we express that anger? What do we really desire, and how do we go about getting it? The sign position of Mars reveals much about our basic animal nature—our aggressive instincts, our sexuality, and our drive. Mars was last in Virgo mid-October, November and first part of December, 2013. How did he express in your life then? In Virgo Mars is a get it done energy. Watch a tendency to take on too much during this time or to become a little too hardnosed. It is a great time to get that to do list cleared out.

September 25 – Pluto in Capricorn goes Direct. Pluto has been in its retrograde phase (appearing to move backward from our perspective here on Earth) since April, 2015. On September 25 it will again appear to move forward in the sky. Pluto represents the breakdown of old patterns in our lives or of old beliefs that no longer serve and breakthrough or transformation in some way.

Retrograde Pluto has tended to operate in our lives primarily on an internal level. When Pluto turns direct you may have a sense of tension being released in some way and/or of a deep transformational force at work in your life.   You will be called to let go of that which needs to pass away and to allow the new to come without knowing the form of the new. This can be exhilarating or terrifying. Can you let go or do you want to attempt to maintain the illusion of control?

September 27 – Total Lunar Eclipse in Libra/Aries at 10:50 pm. This eclipse will be most visible across the eastern half of the United States, South America and western portions of Europe and Africa. The Sun is in Libra and the Moon is in Aries.

This is the fourth of four total lunar eclipses in a row, a relatively rare occurrence called a tetrad. This is also the second Super Full Moon in a row and the closest Super Moon of the year. Super Moons occur because the lunar orbit is elliptical. The Moon is 26,465 miles closer to the Earth, increasing its gravitational effects on tides and weather currents. Eclipses close to a solstice or equinox are even more powerful since there is a reduction in the Earth’s magnetic field which some believe affect us at a deep psychological level. The last lunar eclipse at a similar degree of Libra/Aries was on September 26, 1996. What was happening in your life back then? What is calling you now?

The focus of this eclipse is on relationships (Libra) and self (Aries). Our primary relationship is with ourselves. If we have first not developed this deep relationship, we are likely to be bound up in codependent relationships. Libra often seeks peace at any price and can give self away to the other. This eclipse reminds us we can seek relationships based on mutual empowerment – true partnerships that nourish both. This eclipse also has something to teach us about a healthy balance of female and male energies – within ourselves, in our partnerships and in society at large.

Well, as you can see, there is a lot going on in September. Change, beliefs and relationships are highlighted. Remember, you are not a victim of planetary movements. You are a free will being. You get to choose how you dance with these energies.   This lifetime is a lot like being in school. Sooner or later we all get pretty good at being a student.
